Y-WEA/HEA/MCREA Mobile
Substation Repair
A few years back, the mobile substation jointly
owned by Y-W Electric Association, Inc. in Akron,
Colorado, Highline Electric Association in Holyoke,
Colorado, and Morgan County Rural Electric
Association in Fort Morgan, Colorado experienced
problems during routine testing. We took it to
General Electric's transformer repair facility in
Denver, Colorado and were able to find out that
several parts on two of the de-energized
tapchanger selector switches had become loose
over several years of bouncing along over rural
Northeastern Colorado roads and had jammed.
Visit the Mobile Substation Page to see the pictures
of the mobile substation while the core and coils
assembly was untanked and being repaired.
Critters in Bad Places
Every now and then in this business, you get to
have a look at the raw power that electricity has
when it gets out of control. This raccoon learned
that the hard way while presumably looking for
food in Y-WEA's Akron Substation. Please be
advised that the photos in this series are not for
the faint of heart!
About My Work
My work for Highline Electric Association as the
contracted System Engineer for Y-W Electric
Association, Inc. has been very rewarding over
these past twelve years. As you can see above, I
have been able to be involved in projects that
cover a wide range of subjects, some of which are
quite interesting.
